YAPI MERKEZİ HOLDING CHAIRMAN
Ersin Arıoğlu was born in Istanbul in 1940. He graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Civil Engineering in 1963 and held assistant posts in teaching and research for five years at the same university.
Dr. Ersin Arioglu founded the “Yapı Merkezi Construction Inc.” in Istanbul, Turkey in 1965. He was in charge of the company as Chairman from 1969 to November 2002. Since July 2007, he has been Chairman of Yapı Merkezi Holding. As a Chairman, he led 12 companies (10 national and 2 international companies) under Yapı Merkezi Holding (1998) which are active in research and development, engineering, design and consultancy, construction, education and manufacturing. Mother company “Yapı Merkezi Construction Inc.” engineered approximately 42 million square meters of construction either as consultant/designer or contractor in both Turkey and abroad ranging from industrial estates, mass housing, plants, factories, commercial buildings, tunnels, bridges, viaducts, transportation systems to highways, power plants, water supplies, restoration and strengthening of historical buildings and service building.
His engineering expertise areas are structural engineering, concrete technology, construction methods, transportation systems and structures, earthquake engineering, repair and strengthening of structures, rail systems. His management expertise areas are project development, financing, investment and execution of projects and value-added engineering.
He has published more than 80 articles which appeared in various international and national technical journals, mainly in the fields of concrete technology, earthquake engineering, transportation systems and construction methods, quality management, science centres, education methods, creative thinking. He is also the author of a book on Structural Dynamics. He was also the editor of two industry catalogues and several symposia. He organized and coordinated both on national and international platforms (technical and business) congresses, symposia, panels, conferences as member or technical or administrative chairman of the committees concerned.
He has received decorations, been awarded by special certificates and was granted an honorary Doctorate Degree in recognition of his wide ranging contributions. During 1995-2002, he was Chairman of Istanbul Science Center Foundation.
In 1996 he was appointed as Honorary Consul of the Republic of Slovenia in Istanbul, Turkey. He joined the Board of the International Crisis Group (ICG) between 1997-2008. In 1997, he was awarded the degree of Ph. D. (Hon. Causa)
by the Faculty of Engineering of the Marmara University for his scientific contributions to development of quality in civil engineering and the lead he has taken in the promotion of the concept of scientific centers in Turkey. In November 2002
he was elected deputy to the Turkish Parliament, representing Istanbul, from CHP (Republican People’s Party as Social Democrat), until July 2007. Dr. Arıoğlu participated as a member of Board of Trustees at Acibadem University between
2007-2012. Since 2008, he has been a member of Board of Trustees at White Dot Development Foundation. Since 2011, he has been Supreme Advisory Board Member and Ethics Committee President at Turkish Contractors Association.
In March 2018, he was awarded the degree of Ph. D. (Hon. Causa) by the Senate of the Istanbul Technical University for the leading role of our country's building industry and development of public transport systems.
In 2004, he was decorated by the President of the Slovenia with the Silver Honorary Order of the Republic of Slovenia, which is the highest order given to foreign persons, in recognition of his meritorious services enhancing the development of economic cooperation between Slovenia and Turkey.

Dr. Arıoğlu is married and has four children, nine grandchildren.
