Yapı Merkezi Construction and Industry was founded in 1965 as the first company of the Yapı Merkezi Group. In its initial years, its activities were focussed on the design of important projects and the construction of industrial facilities. Starting with the 80's, its activities shifted towards large scale general contracting works, especially the design and construction of metro and tramway projects. In its successful history, the company has realised many bridges, viaducts, multi-story car parks, touristic facilities, housing and integrated industrial projects.
Since the day of its foundation, the company places special importance on quality, technology and the accumulation of knowledge. In this perspective, it has gained special expertise and published more than one thousand papers and reports in the fields of earthquake engineering, structural engineering, concrete technology, prefabrication, tunnel engineering, urban planning, strengthening-restoration and Turkish building art. As a result, the engineering efforts of the company were recognized many times by national and international scientific authorities.
Yapı Merkezi is a world brand in the field of rail Technologies. 2004 UITP (International Association for Public Transport) “Light Rail Project of the Year” Award was given to ESTRAM (Eskişehir LRTS), as UITP “2010 Best Urban Integration Project of the Year” and British Light Rail Transit Association’s “Worldwide Project of the Year” Awards were given to Kayseray (Kayseri Light Rail System), both realized by Yapı Merkezi. Casablanca Tramway, came into service at the end of 2012, was elected as “highly commended” in "best world-class rail system project of the year-2012" category by Tramways & Urban Transit Organization. Today Yapı merkezi Construction rose to a leading position by gaining vast experience in Türkiye and abroad, in both designing and constructing rail systems.
Yapı Merkezi has been included in the "Top 250 International Contractors List" published annually by ENR-Engineering News Record since 1998 and was ranked 82nd on 2024's list. In the Mass Transit / Light Rail category Yapı Merkezi was ranked 4th largest in the world in 1998, 3rd in 1999, 7th in 2000 and 8th in 2024.
Yapi Merkezi Construction Co. holds ISO 9001 Quality Management System Certification since 2001, ISO 14001 Environmental Management Certification and Occupational Health & Safety Management System Certification since 2003 within the context of Integrated Management Systems.
Yapı Merkezi aims to continue its universal contributions to the civil construction sector by assuming and successfully executing important duties in the construction projects both in Türkiye and around the world.
