As Yapı Merkezi, we focus on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues in line with our sustainability approach, as well as the economic value we create within the framework of the areas and projects we operate in. In this context, we are creating a fiction that will serve all our stakeholders in areas such as environmental management and climate change, energy and water management, circular economy, sustainable finance approach, inclusiveness and diversity. To leave a sustainable planet to future generations, we carry out all our goals based on sustainability in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We are continuing our work on determining our sustainability strategy, goals, policies and subtexts, making the organizational and financial planning that will be needed, creating a Sustainability Committee and supporting sub-working groups to monitor and audit our sustainability performance.
We support the sustainability-oriented transformation of the impact generated by our activities. We contribute to ESG issues with a measurable, comparable and continuously improving sustainability approach. We are working on the Sustainability Management System to manage all our projects and activities according to the principles of ESG.
As Yapı Merkezi, we have a Sustainability Policy that we have published to convey our approach to sustainability and to ensure communication with our group companies and all other stakeholders on this issue.
We carried out the “Stakeholder Participation and Prioritization Analysis” study to determine the issues that Yapı Merkezi highlights in its sustainable approach. At the stage of determining the relevant issues, we have identified 18 sustainability-based topics by considering current business strategies, global trends, international sustainability frameworks and sector-specific practices.
The main ones of these topics are:
• Occupational Health and Safety: We are working to ensure that all our employees have a healthy and safe working environment. In this context, we carry out studies aimed at preventing occupational accidents and occupational diseases through risk assessment, trainings, inspections and other measures.
• Sustainable Environmental Management: The focus of our sustainability approach is environmental management. In this context, we are working and taking measures to reduce the environmental impacts caused by our activities and to combat climate change, to increase energy and water efficiency and to reduce resource use, to prevent the loss of biodiversity that may occur due to our activities.
• Circular Economy: We adopt a circular economic approach to use resources efficiently and reduce waste. In this context, we are implementing pioneering practices in waste management and recycling.
• Sustainable Finance Approach: Sustainable finance refers to financial decisions that consider environmental and social impacts. In this context, we are making investments and providing financing in accordance with the principles of sustainable finance.
• Equality, Inclusion and Diversity: We are working to create a fair and inclusive business environment for all our stakeholders. In this context, we are implementing pioneering practices on issues such as gender equality and employee satisfaction.
• Sustainable Supply Chain: Working together with our stakeholders, we strive to reduce environmental and social impacts in our supply chain. In this context, we have developed a framework for evaluating the environmental and social performance of suppliers.
• Quality Education: We prioritize our stakeholders' adoption of behaviors and awareness that are in line with these sustainability strategies to successfully implement our sustainability strategies. Recognizing that investment in education is not only the most important but also the most efficient and fastest-returning investment for a country's development, we organize education, scholarship and internship programs that are tailored to the needs and encompass both theoretical and practical aspects, aiming to enhance our stakeholders' awareness and fulfill our social responsibility. We also contribute to social responsibility projects. At our schools, we consider it is our responsibility to ensure that each student reaches the highest level of learning which is suitable for their abilities for the future.
