Divaca-Koper Railway

The Slovenian State Railway Company (Slovenske železnice) has awarded the LOT 1 and LOT 2 contracts of the Divača-Koper Railway 2nd Track Project to the Kolektor CPG-Yapı Merkezi-Özaltın Joint Venture. The continuation of this project, covering all infrastructure works related to railway laying as well as electromechanical tasks, is under the responsibility of the Yapı Merkezi-ŽGP-Kolektor IGIN-GHH Joint Venture for LOT 3. This project aims to significantly enhance the country’s international logistics capacity by providing a crucial connection between the Port of Koper and Central Europe.
 
LOT 1 encompasses a route of 15.9 kilometers between Divača and Crni Kal, with a contract value of €403.6 million. The project involves the excavation of tunnels totaling 25,463 meters in length, including two double tunnels. The T1 Tunnel consists of a 6,709-meter main tunnel, a 6,677-meter service tunnel, and a 251-meter connection tunnel. The T2 Tunnel has a 5,994-meter main tunnel, a 5,983-meter service tunnel, and a 275-meter connection tunnel. Excavation has been successfully completed by mid-2024 despite challenging geological conditions such as permeable carbonate rocks and underground water flows, while internal lining concrete work is still ongoing. The expected completion time for this project is 40 months. All excavation works are carried out using the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM) with the Drill & Blast technique.
 
LOT 2 covers a route of 12.1 kilometers extending from Crni Kal to Koper and has a contract value of €224.7 million. This project includes the construction of five tunnels: T3 Tunnel (300 meters), T4 Tunnel (1,928 meters), T5/6 Tunnel (477 meters), T7 Tunnel (1,119 meters), and T8 Tunnel (3,764 meters). Tunnel excavation has been completed, and internal lining concrete work is ongoing. Additionally, there are two significant viaducts in this project: Gabrovica Viaduct, measuring 452 meters long with seven spans reaching heights of 14 to 64 meters, and Vinjani Viaduct, which is 647 meters long with 11 spans reaching heights of up to 66 meters. The expected completion time for LOT 2 is 36 months.
 
LOT 3 spans 28.1 kilometers between Divača and Koper with a contract value of €203.8 million. This project will involve the construction of transformer buildings, electrical systems, lighting systems, and security systems, among other critical tasks. It will also include railway laying and mechanical installations in the tunnels. The anticipated completion time for LOT 3 is 15 months. All these works aim to strengthen the international connections of Koper Port and significantly improve the region's logistics infrastructure.
